Mills's company ALS made the tear gas and riot-control munitions reportedly used on protesters in Washington, Denver, Philadelphia, and Charlotte in 2020. A House committee pressed his company's CEO over the products' health hazards. ALS rubber bullets were also reportedly sold for use on Hong Kong democracy protesters.

Company ownership: his own disclosures. Mills has never denied it.

Military.com reported Mills's companies sold or pursued arms deals with foreign governments — a reported $228 million Iraq deal, Saudi-linked defense expos, Colombia, Ukraine — while he sat on the two committees that oversee arms sales. Asked repeatedly to name his foreign customers, he refused.

The independent Office of Congressional Ethics found "substantial reason to believe" Mills's companies kept holding and profiting from federal contracts — close to $1 million since he took office — a potential violation of federal law. It found he never disclosed ALS, Inc. on any financial disclosure, and reported that he refused to explain his corporate structure or provide tax returns.

Police drafted an arrest warrant.

D.C. police investigated Mills for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at his Washington penthouse. Officers documented fresh bruising on her arm, and records and bodycam obtained by the Washington Post show police prepared an arrest-warrant affidavit — which the U.S. Attorney declined to sign. The case was closed without charges; the House Ethics investigation still covers the incident.

No charges filed. Mills denies any assault; the woman later recanted.

His own soldiers dispute his medal.

Five soldiers from Mills's 2003 Iraq deployment — including men named in his own Bronze Star recommendation — disputed the heroics it describes, NOTUS reported. The soldier Mills is credited with saving said flatly: "He didn't save my life." Mills keeps the award and says soldiers don't write their own citations.

While claiming a Florida address, Mills lived in a Washington penthouse renting for over $20,000 a month — and his landlord sued to evict him over $85,009 in unpaid rent, with a ledger showing him late at least 18 times since 2023. He paid only after being sued, and the case was dismissed.

Sheriff's report

Accused of threatening to release intimate videos.

Miss United States 2024 Lindsey Langston — a Florida Republican committeewoman — told the Columbia County Sheriff's Office that after she ended their relationship, Mills threatened to release intimate videos of her and to harm her future boyfriends. The sheriff forwarded the case to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

A Florida judge granted Langston a dating-violence injunction against Mills — finding her in imminent danger of another act of dating violence, barring contact, and ordering him to stay 500 feet away. The court found his testimony about the intimate videos was not credible. A sitting congressman, under a domestic-violence court order.

Mills's munitions company halted production at its Perry, Florida plant and furloughed roughly 80 workers — then was hit with a $95 million foreclosure complaint within a week. A federal appeals court had already ruled his company improperly took COVID relief while in default on a government loan. Florida Phoenix reported the abandoned explosives site is a "ticking time bomb" for Taylor County.

The House Ethics Committee empaneled an Investigative Subcommittee on Mills covering campaign-finance violations, false financial disclosures, improper gifts, misuse of office — and sexual misconduct and dating violence. By May 2026 it had authorized more than 20 subpoenas, collected thousands of documents, and contacted dozens of witnesses, calling the allegations "serious and complex."
